“Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of owning several of Arthur Conner’s exceptional fiddles and mandolins. When I began taking lessons from Mike Mitchell, I brought a beautiful four-string fiddle that Arthur had crafted in the late 80s or early 90s.
As it turned out, Mike had a deep-rooted connection to Arthur and his instruments. They had known each other for many years, and Mike had spent countless hours working alongside Arthur in his shop, learning the intricacies of his craft. Mike’s intimate knowledge of Arthur’s work, particularly his fiddles, is truly unparalleled. He has played exclusively on Conner fiddles and was a dedicated advocate for Arthur’s artistry during his lifetime.
I’ve always relied on Mike’s expertise when acquiring a Conner instrument. Whether he sourced it for me or not, I’ve sought his opinion on its construction, age, and quality. His insights have consistently proven invaluable.
Even today, Mike continues to celebrate Arthur’s legacy as an Appalachian luthier. Whenever a new Conner instrument emerges, it’s always a thrill to see it and hear Mike bring it to life with his playing.” — Gary Long

What’s new in the workshop?
Grandma’s old fiddle gets some TLC
I recently did some restoration work for Mary Peluso (of Peluso Microphone Lab). Here is an example of a quote for restoration, along with a final video explanation of the work done. This gives an idea of the type of work that goes into restoring family heirlooms like Mary’s Grandmother’s fiddle, and making them playable again. The fiddle has been restored to its former glory and is ready to be enjoyed by generations to come. Grandma would be pleased I think. 😉
